Today I just hung up the phone from a call with a client who’s mother just passed away.

This client came to me a little over a year ago with several very old scrapbook albums that were her mothers.

Her mother had Alzheimer’s and she wanted to take the images out of the old scrapbooks, have them scanned and placed into a digital album.

I was more than happy to help her with this project and we got started right away.

Once the images were scanned, she decided that she wanted to move forward creating two separate books. The first book was of her mother and father as they were dating and up to when they got married. The second book was marriage up to present.

The first book was created and she gave it to her mother last Christmas. In January, I received the nicest email from the client telling me how much her mother and father enjoyed the album and how much she was looking forward to giving her mom the second album for mothers day.

Time passed and I did not hear from the client but I knew she was very busy taking care of her mother so I didn’t think anything of it.

Then in March I reached out to her to see if she wanted me to proceed on the second album. She informed me that she did want to move forward but wanted to wait to do it as a birthday present for her mom instead. She said she would be in touch and we left it at that.

Today (9/21/11) I reached out to this client to see how she was and see if she wanted to think about this book as another holiday present. That is when she informed me that her mother had just passed yesterday and yes she wanted to move forward with the second book but she will be giving it to her dad this Christmas.

Something special happens when a client sees what their photos look like in a finished book. And in this case, this client as many of my other clients have become more. She and many others have become friends.

By doing what I do with their images and telling the stories behind them, I make them come alive in a whole new way.

I’m just happy I could bring joy to my client and her mother through the Power of a Photograph!

Ever hear the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words?

Well if you really think about it, it’s true….

We are in the middle of Wedding Season right now so lets take the example of a bride and groom cutting their cake.

Example….

First shot…

The photographer gets a lovely shot of the couple standing side by side, holding each others hands and gently pushing the knife through the cake.

Second shot…

The photographer gets the shot of the groom gently feeding his bride a small piece of cake ever so delicately from the fork….The groom is smiling at his bride with a loving look in his eyes. The bride has a smile but a look in her eye of nervousness. She is thinking “I hope he doesn’t shove this piece of cake up my nose”.

Third shot…

The photographer gets the shot of the bride feeding the groom a piece of cake but wait…”What’s this…she blind sides him with a piece of cake on a plate right upside his face…” The groom is smiling…kinda and the bride is laughing…

Now I ask you…Is he …

A. Ok with what happened?

B. Not really but smiling for the camera?

or

C. He knows if he wants to consecrate the marriage, he’ll act like it was ok?

The correct answer???

You’ll have to ask the happy couple, because a picture is worth a thousand words!

“Father Shares Marine’s Ordeal”

In honor of Veterans Day, I’d like to share this story with you.

On September 27, 2010, I was contacted via e-mail by a gentleman by the name of Bob Faro. Bob that same day had gone to his local bank to do some banking and in the lobby was a table set up to showcase Celebrate Your Photos LLC.

Bob looked at the book that I had left at the bank and instantly knew he needed to contact me. You see, Bob’s son Lance Corporal Joseph L. Faro is a United States Marine and had been injured while in Afghanistan. Bob’s son was wounded by an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) and had to be Medevaced to the National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. In the e-mail Bob sent me, he explained that on May 23, 2010 when he saw his son, it was impossible to think that his son would make it to see May 24th but he did and with that came the long road of recover and the journey that brought Bob and I together.

Bob had been asked to do a Veterans Day presentation at the Easton Public Library and wanted to know if I could help him with this presentation by putting together a slideshow of photos and newspaper articles he had gathered.

In the e-mail that Bob sent me, I could feel the love that he has for his son and his passion for wanted to educate the general public on just what is going on over in Afghanistan.

As I also read his e-mail, I couldn’t help but think of my grandfather. My grandfather is a WWII Veteran and flew many missions. As a teenager, I can remember asking him about his time in the war but he would never open up and talk about it. It wasn’t until my now 17 year old son asked him about the war did he open up. He sobbed as he recounted some of the stories and remembering his friends that didn’t make it back home with him.

So for Bob, his son, my Grandfather and all the Veterans that have given service to this country, I agreed to take on this project.

Regardless of how you feel about the war, we have very brave young men and women over in Afghanistan putting their life on the line everyday. And without these brave souls, we Americans would not be enjoying any of the freedoms we all take for granted each and every day.

Bob Faro gave his presentation yesterday at the Easton Public Library and I’m sure it was very well received. I hope on this Veterans Day, you will all take a minute to read the attached newspaper article “Father Shares Marine’s Ordeal” http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/easton/index.ssf?/base/news-2/1289451937250750.xml&coll=3 and that you will each take a minute and thank a Veteran.

Q. What does Deadliest Catch and Celebrate Your Photos have in common?

A. Photo Memories…?

Allow me to explain.

For all of you that are fans of the show, you know that Captain Phil of the Cornelia Maria died this past season. And, you know that Discovery Channel has continued to air the taped season.

This week’s episode featured a segment of Captain Phil going through photos of his boys and reliving each of the memories that each photo held.

Q. Now, what does Deadliest Catch and Celebrate Your Photos LLC., have in common?

A. Reliving the memories of photos.

As the owner of Celebrate Your Photos, I know the power that each photograph can hold. Some photos help people remember a person they love or have loved. Some photos help people remember a special time or place and some photos help us laugh. It really doesn’t matter why a photo is taken, it matters how you choose to preserve that photo and enjoy it.

I couldn’t help but think that as Captain Phil shuffling through the pile of photos he held in his hands that after he looked at them, the images were going to be put back into the envelope they were taken from and the story in his mind of each went back into that envelope as well.

This is why I started my company. When my clients hire me to help them place their photos into one of my custom digital albums, they know that I will help them enjoy their photos, tell the stories that go with the photos and most importunately preserve the memories that are attached to each of the photos.

So, the next time you are leafing through a pile of photos, stop and think about the memories that you’re looking at and then think about how you want to preserve and enjoy those photos memories!

Recently I was at a party enjoying a relaxing conversation with a longtime dear friend and we got into a discussion about a trip she had taken several years before we met.

The trip she had taken was back in 1987 with her sister, her sisters husband and their two children. The trip was to the Fjords in Norway.

I had never heard of the Fjords and I was very interested in hearing all the information she had to share with me. My friends sister happened to be at that same party and she was shareing the stories of their climb up the mountain and the beauty of the area as well.

As I’m sure most of you are aware, words are great but a picture is worth a thousand words.

The next day, I received an e-mail from my friends sister with a slideshow of photos she had taken on their trip.

Let me just say, I have been to the Grand Canyon, have hiked down into the Canyon and stood on the edge of the Canyon but the pictures she sent me of the Fjords made my palms sweat just watching the video.

After viewing her slide show, I googled the Norway Fjords and have a attached a link so you can see what I’m referring to. http://www.fjords.com/slideshow/prekestolen/index.html

What struck me most interesting about the Fjords was the platform rock that everyone was laying on taking pictures. I would personally love to do something with the pictures that can be taken from here but since I’m afraid of heights, I guess I’ll have to wait for a client to bring their photos of their trip and I’ll make them a beautiful custom digital album.

Hope you enjoy!

Taking a Great Easter Photo

Easter is one of those holidays that many of my clients have their camera out to take lots of pictures but they get frustrated when they don’t get the photos that they were trying to get.

Because of my profession, I am asked on a regular basis if I can help my clients take better photos?

While I will never claim to be a professional photographer, I do enjoy taking my far share of photos and I have picked up some great tips from some professional photographers such as Dewitt Jones and Nick Kelsh over the years. Google them, both take fabulous photos and offer some great tips.

Here are a few suggestions that I give to my clients to help them take a great Easter Photo.

Tip 1: Don’t be afraid to get close to your subject!

I see this all too often. When we take photos, we have a tendency to not get close to our subject. And when the photo is taken, we end up with a lot of background stuff. This is normally one of the first things I remove from my client’s photos when they hire me to do a custom digital book for them.

Instead, to element this problem, zoom in or get closer to your subject.

Tip 2: Don’t be afraid to get close to the action!

Now I’m not suggesting that you run around like a nut chasing your child as their grabbing eggs. First of all you won’t get the shot you’re hoping for but secondly, you don’t want to run any other children over in the process.

What I mean by this is play with the setting on your camera. Most general digital camera’s have a button that can easily be pushed to activate the action mode but if you have a more advanced model, then please read the manual. By setting your camera for the action mode/sports mode, it will allow you to take great action shot of the kids running around and you’ll look like a professional photographer in the process.

Tip 3: Practice, Practice, Practice!

All too often I hear people tell me they don’t like their digital camera. It doesn’t take pictures like my old film camera did……	Simple solution, Practice!

The digital cameras that are made today will give you great photos; you just need to learn how to use the setting. Know when to turn on and off your flash. Learn what each of the different modes will do. Then you will be happy with the photos you’re taking!

Tip 4: Enjoy your photos!

Photos are meant to be enjoyed. Don’t leave them in your camera or worse load them on your computer and then do nothing with them. Instead, let’s put them into a custom digital book, then you will be able to pull the book from your book selves and enjoy those photos from that day over and over again.

Your parents gave you a box of Family Photos, now what?

I can’t tell you how many times I hear this story….

Mom and Dad are downsizing and have been kind enough to separate the family photos and distribute them to all the children. Now I have several boxes of photos of me when I was a kid and I don’t know what to do with them.

Sound Familiar?

While this story sounds like a big problem it’s really not. Here is how I have helped several clients.

First, I suggest that we scan the photos.

- By scanning them, it will digitize the images so we can use them in other forms and we will be able to edit the images.

Second, I suggest we discuss how you want to organize the original images?

(A) In a photo safe box (B) In a scrapbook or (C) Trash them

That’s right I said throw them away.

No I haven’t lost my mind, I suggest this because we now have all of the images edited and digitized. These photos now look better than ever and are ready to go into a custom digital album.

Now for any of you who just can’t stand to think of such an idea, then I would suggest we scrapbook them. If we organize them into a photo safe box, your photos are still going to be in a box. However, if we put the original images in a scrapbook, you will now able to take that book off the shelf and enjoy those photos anytime you want.

Finally…But now we have great looking digitized images, you can make a custom digital book out of these!

- Think of this….. If we take these images and put them into a custom digital photo book, we can now enjoy them in a book form that will be less than one inch thick and we can make more than one copy of this book. You can give Mom and Dad a copy to put in their newly downsized home and you can have a copy to put on your book shelf.

So to recap, our original problem was you received a box of photos from your parents. They are photos of you when you were growing up and you want to enjoy them but you just don’t know where to begin. Now, you have a solution!

Relive your childhood and share the stories; when you’re gone the stories will be to!
